Education Experts Work on Curriculum Development

by fontes on 15/10/2011 No comments

On the 10th of October, Fontes Foundation invited four education experts to a workshop. They were asked to assist in the elaboration of a curriculum for the Youth Project, starting by the end of this year. The aim was to further develop the curriculum of the Core Course which is going to be taught during eight months in the Youth Centre in Bukasa, Kampala. The workshop focused on two distinct subjects: Personal Development and Business Skills. The composition of each subject was elaborated in separate groups first and secondly discussed with all participants. During the workshop, many good inputs were pointed out which helped pushing the project an important step forward.
Additionally, the Youth Centre will provide further courses in computer skills as well as in English and Literacy Skills. The curriculum for these courses will be framed within the next few weeks with the support of another group of experts.

Drinking Water for 3000 People

Fontes Foundation is proud of expanding the project area across the Kazinga Channel to Katunguru, Kasese District. Between the 12th and 15th of September, a team of 7 employees and volunteers installed the latest water supply system in the area, funded by Lions Club Slemdal, Norway. Owing to a huge effort made by the community, safe water was available at the temporary tap station after only three and a half days of work. Two ten thousand litres storage tanks on top of a shipping container provide the community with fresh drinking water now.

On the last day of the implementation, the election and training of the water committee, which is in charge of running the water supply system, initiated the important follow-up phase. Fontes Foundation henceforth supports the village in making the system sustainable through multiple field trips.

Scholarship Students Involved in Water Project

by fontes on 16/09/2011 No comments

Three students from the Scholarship Programme, Justine, Zarika and Gideon, participated to the implementation of the new water project in Katunguru Kasese. Like other scholarship students before, they were highly motivated and assisted with many different tasks such as plumbing, supervising the digging of trenches or translating. The project was successfully completed and the three students were very pleased of having been part of it. Fontes Foundation thinks it is important for the personal development of the students not only to focus on academic education, but also to get exposed to community work. We therefore try to include the students in our projects as much as we can, which is appreciated both by the students and the communities.
In November, Gideon as well as his classmate Paul are to finish their A-Levels degree and will therefore leave the Scholarship Programme. However, Fontes Foundation will take in four new students in the first term of 2011. If you are interested in sponsoring one of the new students, do not hesitate to contact us.
